We are just waiting...waiting for Easter to get here. I'd like to say that our anxiousness for Easter is to celebrate our Lord's resurrection. While that is part of why we look forward to Easter, the other reason we are looking forward to Easter SO MUCH this year is because Kervens' birth father is supposed to come sign the last paper to relinquish him for adoption.
You see, apparently Kervens' father works as a janitor (or something like that) at a school a couple of hours from Port-au-Prince. His only way to get to Port-au-Prince is to come during holidays from school. So I looked up the Haitian school holidays, and it looks like they get off the first two weeks of May for their Easter break. We are praying fervently that he will make the trip into town a priority during his break. Obviously, there is no way to force him to make such a trip. We just pray that he will...for his son's future.
The reality is this. IF Kervens' birthfather comes to sign the paper, the authorities might ask for a DNA sample later on. So, we are going to try to avoid having him make ANOTHER trip in from the countryside. We are going to try to have a DNA test done while he is in town over his break. However, DNA tests can be very unreliable for some reason...resulting in lots of false negative tests. In other words, even if we do have him DNA tested, there is a chance the test will come back negative - even if he really is the father. Such is Haiti.
And IF the DNA test comes back positive, there is still a chance the authorities won't accept that DNA test done by an outside source. They may require another DNA test done at a later time. If this happens, our ever-so-sleuthy idea will be a waste. Oh well, we are doing all we can to speed this process up. But in reality, the timing of all this is in the Lord's hands. We will keep waiting.
