I LOVE Basketball

Have I mentioned that I love basketball?  Well, I do.  As a mom who watches every sport known to man, I must admit that basketball has always been the sport of choice for me.  I mean, it is so viewer friendly! You don't have to worry about freezing your "hiney" off at a late season soccer match in mid-November.  Burr!  And you don't have to worry about getting fried at an All-Star baseball game in early July.  In basketball, a game can never be cancelled due to weather.  (Ok, I realize that the occasional tornado touching down can cancel a basketball game, but you know what I mean.)  Also, there is a lot to cheer about every minute of the game.  Lots of scoring goes on.  You don't have to watch an entire game and end up with a final score of 0-0.  Who came up with such a sport?

I know, you soccer enthusiasts are cursing me right now...saying crazy things like, "There is a lot to cheer about in a soccer game - the beauty of the passes, the amazing runs they make, the finesse of the footwork is so intriguing."  To all of that I say, "hogwash!"  Any sporting event that could possibly end with a score of 0-0 does not deserve to be called a sport.  (Oh, I am going to get in so much trouble when Eddy reads this blog!)

My prayer lately has been something like this...dear Lord, please don't let Jackson end up playing soccer or baseball or for heaven's sake not cycling!  Cycling...talk about viewer UN-friendly!
So, if I get a vote to determine what sport Jackson will end up focusing on, then I am certainly pulling for a career in basketball!  His season just ended this week, and it was a lot of fun watching him play.  Eddy was the coach of his team and all the parents rave about his coaching ability.  Well, actually, they rave about his PATIENCE more than anything!

Put it this way...when our small group asked for prayer requests one night, Eddy's first request was that he could learn to love the unloveable.  And that unloveable person just happens to be a member of his peewee basketball team!

And to top it all off, the last game of the season consisted of all of the following: a child who came to play in boots, a child who came to play in a t-shirt the same color as the opposing team, a child who walked off the court to use the bathroom right in the middle of a play, a child who touched the ball for the first time all season (and it is the last game of the season), a child who refused to run down the court - they would only walk, a child who took way too many shots from way too far away from the basket (umm, that would be OUR son), and a child who had such a bad attitude that Eddy had to sit him out of the game.

Phew!  And I quote Eddy, "Why do I do this? Oh, cuz I love my son."

Check out that follow through!

Let me tell you, our boy is NOT AFRAID to shoot!

Thank you, Eddy, for giving your time and being patient with these boys!
